Chef Classes

We all have been to restaurants where, after a delicious meal, we wondered what it would be like to be a chef. We all have seen celebrity chefs on television and thought about what type of education they had for their career. Many of the chefs who write for various media organizations are graduates of culinary schools where Chef classes are taught in various venues including culinary schools or universities and colleges which provide a diverse curriculum.
Chef courses
There are a wide variety of courses available for chefs, ranging from individual cooking classes to full professional degrees.
Community learning – Community centers may offer classes taught locally by members of the community who are chefs or persons interested in sharing their knowledge.
Cultural Centers – Cooking classes are offered by cultural centers by local restaurant chefs to share their knowledge. Although these types of classes may be held in the cultural center, they also can be held at restaurants during the off hours or at a recreation center.
Local schools - At local schools and colleges, there will be various cooking courses which teach topics such as food preparation, cooking, and other topics by the staff of the school. Certificates may be issued for these classes
Chef degrees
Professional cooking schools are similar to traditional colleges. Students can take up to 2 years or more to complete coursework towards a degree. As in other fields of study there are specialties within the culinary arts. Courses or coursework towards a degree range from Culinary Arts, Baking and Pastry, Beverage, and Culinary Management, Hospitality and Restaurant, as well as Travel and Tourism are important for a career in the culinary arts. A degree in the culinary arts may just be the first step in a career. Many chefs are also owners of their own restaurants and have taken course towards a restaurant management and hospitality degree. There are special programs for those who are taking their culinary arts courses to also include management courses in preparation for owning their own business. Graduates of the culinary arts schools are placed in top restaurants to develop and advance their cooking art.
Other students use their culinary arts training to pursue other careers in the food industry. Restaurant Management degrees are available for students who are pursuing a career as a manager of a restaurant, hotel or other hospitality related business. Students who pursue a Baking and Pastry degree become bakers, and dessert specialists in restaurants, hotels, and cruise ships. Sommeliers, bar tenders and other beverage specialists are graduates with courses in the wine and spirts coursework. Food critics and editors often start out in the restaurant business, using their skills in food preparation and technique to write and comment on food topics. A very interesting line of work in the media industry would be a food stylist. All the advertisements, commercials, articles and shows all portray food in a certain manner. All the preparation for staging of food in the media is performed by a food stylist.
