Home Design Ideas

Your home design will be based on the architectural style
that you love and want to live in, of course, but there are other
considerations when you're planning your dream house. While the exterior
appearance is important, the interior design features of your chosen style need
to be considered, too. If you want lots of open floor space, you might be drawn
toward a Frank Lloyd Wright style, or you might want several small rooms even
though you're looking at an Art Deco exterior.
A house design encompasses more than just the look, so
you'll want to not only choose your favorite style but the one with the
features you want and need. An architect can also help you take your chosen
style and make the interior what you want it to be while fitting it in with the
design.
A major consideration in home designs is always the cost. A
good average is about 0 dollars per square foot, though some smaller homes
may actually cost more than that and some larger homes, while more expensive,
may have a lower per square foot price. And some architectural designs are
simply more expensive, and can go up to 0 per square foot and beyond,
depending on the scope and size of the home design.
Determining the size of the house you need will go a long
way toward giving you an idea of how much it will cost. But how do you look at
home designs and determine if they're big enough for your needs? You really
need to make a basic plan about the rooms you'll need within the home. Since
this is your home you're designing, start big with every room included you'd
like to have, even if it seems like a lot and more than you think you can
afford. It's easier to start big and trim down and compromise to fit your
budget than to have to add later.
You've probably already thought about how many bedrooms and
bathrooms you want. Now is the time to decide if you'd like a living room and
family room that are separate. If you think you would, include that. You may
compromise later because of your budget and end up with a house design that
combines them, but if you'd like to have them separate plan now for the extra
room. Will you want a separate dining room or an eat-in kitchen? Also consider
other rooms like a study/office, a playroom for kids' toys, a library, a
mudroom, a full basement and any other rooms you've dreamed of having in the
size you'd like them.
If you figure up the space you'll need for all these rooms
and then figure the total square footage, you'll have a number to give a
contractor to get an estimate of the cost. You can adjust your home design from
there. If your original plan is too expensive, then you can either make the
rooms smaller so the home is smaller, or eliminate a room or two to make it
possible.
