Bathroom remodel design tips
Written by No Doubt Marketing
Designing small rooms is usually trickier than designing large ones, so a bathroom remodel design might not be the easiest thing to come up with. Or, it might be easy to come up with a design idea that you love, but then you realize it's completely impractical, given the size of your bathroom. Don't fret if your bathroom is small. Use your creativity and you'll come up with a bathroom remodel design that you love.
When you're remodeling your bathroom, you should consider that the largest thing in the room (unless you have a very long vanity) is the bathtub and the shower area. You can spend a lot of money in this one aspect, depending on your taste and your overall bathroom remodel design. Or you can go with a typical fiberglass shower/tub combination.
If you have a theme in mind for your bathroom and you know that you'll be spending a lot on extras like special wallpaper or ceramic tile for the floor, and maybe accessories that fit your vision, you may choose to buy a plain shower and tub. If you're going to have layers of shower curtains—one for protection, another for decoration and yet another ruffle with a swag—then the appearance of the tub isn't going to matter much, as little will show.
But if you're going for an oddly shaped whirlpool tub, or something like a gorgeous claw foot tub with special fixtures, then this is going to affect your bathroom remodel design a lot. A fancy tub and fixtures won't look right paired with the cheapest vanity top you can find. Consider details like this when choosing each item. Will a claw foot bathtub with antique-looking fixtures look right paired with a very modern looking toilet? Or would a pull chain flush toilet look better? Consider how each thing looks when combined with your other choices.
Also, consider the current plumbing. If you choose a different sized tub or a larger or smaller toilet, will you have to do a plumbing remodel that can add a lot of expense to the project? Is it better to compromise on those high ticket items to avoid having to do a plumbing refit?
Thinking of things like that makes it clear that a bathroom remodel design must include more than just the surface appearance. You don't want to purchase that gorgeous bathtub and those fancy fixtures only to be surprised that the plumbing has to be refit after the fact. Consider plumbing when you're looking at the variety of sinks available today, too.
Don't forget to consider storage in your bathroom remodel designs. Cabinets are an important part of the bathroom, and your design choice will need to look right with your large ticket items, too. The lighting in the room is also an important consideration—will the new lighting you choose require rewriting?
Bathroom remodeling designs take careful consideration to avoid problems, but once you've made sure your plumbing and wiring will work, there's really no limit to what you can do in this special space.
