Bathroom Vanities
Written by No Doubt Marketing
If you are thinking about a bathroom remodel or updating your bathroom, one of the primary features to consider is your bathroom vanity. While many bathroom vanities are simply bathroom cabinets that have been purchased from stock cabinets, there are many bathroom vanity styles available that will update your bathroom and create an entirely new look by simply replacing your old vanity with a new one.
Bathroom Vanity Styles
Bathroom vanity cabinets come in almost every style and configuration you can imagine today. There are vanity cabinets that look like antique cabinets that have been installed with a few adjustments to make them work in the bathroom. At the other end of the scale there are bathroom vanity cabinets that are inexpensive and can be purchased at any large home improvement center from stock cabinets.
Bathroom Sink Vanities
Like bathroom vanity cabinets, bathroom sink vanities also come in a wide variety of shapes and styles. You can find bathroom sinks in round shapes, octagonals, and squares. You can also find bathroom sinks that are designed to sit on top of the bathroom vanity cabinet, in addition to those designed to be recessed inside the cabinet.
While the standard white bathroom sink is easy to find and install, some people prefer the artistic glass or ceramic bathroom sink vanities that can be found in custom design centers.
Choosing a Bathroom Vanity
When you choose a bathroom vanity, there are several considerations. You should choose a size that will fit in the space you have available and you should choose a bathroom sink vanity that will also fit in the vanity cabinet you have chosen.
If you are remodeling you current bathroom, measure the existing vanity and decide if that is the size you want to replace. If you are doing an entire bathroom remodel, then think about whether or not you want to enlarge or reduce the size of your existing vanity. This decision will make a big difference in the size of vanity you choose and how you will conform the rest of the room. Remember that you will also need to think about plumbing access and placement of other features like the toilet and possibly the bathtub and/or shower.
Working with a Contractor
If you have decided that you want to hire a contractor to remodel your bathroom or to install a new bathroom vanity cabinet and sink, then start with anyone you know who has recently had their bathroom remodeled. Talk to them about who they used for their contracting work and whether they were happy with the end result. Find out if there were any problems during the project and how they were resolved.
When you talk to a potential contractor, ask them to give you a realistic estimate of costs, including both labor and materials. Talk to them about possibly ordering materials yourself, since this is one way to save a bit on costs. Also, ask them if they carry workers compensation insurance for their laborers and if they subcontract work. With estimates from three different contractors, you should have a good idea of the costs and the time frame to have your project completed.
