Jack and Jill Bathroom Designs
Written by No Doubt Marketing
If you remember the old nursery rhyme, you remember who Jack and Jill are and that they shared their pail of water. Well Jack and Jill have moved into the home and are now sharing a bathroom. For many families, a Jack and Jill bathroom is a bathroom that is placed between two bedrooms, usually the bedrooms of two children. However, Jack and Jill bathrooms designs are not just limited to the bathrooms shared by children – grownups sometimes decide that a Jack and Jill bathroom is just what they need to keep the peace in the bathroom.
Features of a Jack and Jill Bathroom
One of the areas in the bathroom that children fight over the most is the vanity and sink area. In many Jack and Jill bathroom designs, this situation is solved by having two sinks in the vanity area. Also, it is frequently found that separating the vanity sinks into separate areas in the bathroom so that each sink has its own mirror and even storage area is even more helpful.
Usually there is only one toilet and shower or shower/tub in the bathroom, but it may be separated by a partition, privacy screen wall or even a pocket-door or regular door. This way someone can be using the sink area, while another person can be using the bathtub or toilet in privacy.
It is also not uncommon for Jack and Jill bathrooms to have at least two entrances to the bathroom. These entrances may be from each room that is connected to the bathroom, but there may also be an additional door if the bathroom is located off of a busy hallway and is used for guests or other people in the house.
Decorating a Jack and Jill Bathroom
In many cases, decorating a Jack and Jill bathroom may need to involve the two parties that primarily share the bathroom, especially if the parties are sibling. After all, they will be sharing the space and it should be a room where they like the decorations.
If the children are brother and sister or have two extremely opposed decorating ideas, one way to bring the two sides together is through the use of color. Choose a color that can be used in both bedrooms and bring it into the bathroom as a decorating theme. Another alternative is to choose one or two colors from each bedroom and bring those colors together. For example, if one room has a blues and green and the other room has pinks and purples, create a wall space that is painted blue and has green, pink and purple polka dots or stripes on it. You can also go even farther in the "sharing" theme of Jack and Jill and encourage the children to participate in decorating one wall with paint that they have chosen.
In some cases, the decor may be largely utilitarian out of a need to keep the room easy to clean and to reach agreement between the two sides. But with a little creativity, it can be possible to liven up a Jack and Jill bathroom design and create a bathroom that everyone is happy with.
