Rug Cleaning
Written by No Doubt Marketing
Carpets and rugs are one of the most important assets in your house that add beauty to your house. They often get dirty and need regular cleaning as dirty rugs and carpets not only take the shine away from them but may also perpetuate a number of illnesses such as asthma. One of the best ways to keep the rugs and carpets clean is prevention and protection. You can keep them clean by following simple tips such as removing outdoor shoes when entering the house. You can judge how dirty the rug or carpet is by picking up a corner of the rug and while holding it, kicking its back sharply. If you see a cloud of dirt flying out of the pile, the rug is dirty and it is time for carpet rug cleaning.
Cleaning a rug is extremely easy. You need to vacuum both the sides and then shampoo it using a mild liquid soap or a rug shampoo and cold water. Using brush, rub the pile gently and rinse it thoroughly with running water. Squeeze out excess water and lay it down to dry.
Rug cleaning is most effective if you try to act immediately and prevent the area of spill from increasing. If you have a baby then you will find that urine spills is the problematic as it may leave an odor that is difficult to remove and it may chemically damage the structure of a rug. Similar is the food spill. If the rug or carpet is small, you can take it outside and rinse it with a hose and cool water. If it is large, lay its corner in a plastic dishpan and saturate with cool water or you can place the plastic garbage under the wet area of the carpet and then pour cool water through the rug. Add one cup of white vinegar to water as it helps in preventing colors from running and also helps in neutralizing the odor. After rinsing the rug, blot dry it with rug shampoo.
Let it dry thoroughly in such a way so that air can circulate both top and bottom. Instead of using rug shampoo, you can also use a solution by mixing 1/4 cup white vinegar, 1/2 tsp liquid dishwashing detergent and 2 cups tepid water. In case your pet throws on a rug, you must clean the area immediately by picking up as much material as possible with paper towels and you may also use a tablespoon to scrape up all the foreign material. Sponge the area in the direction of nap several times with rug shampoo or with the cleaning solution listed below.
You can make rugs cleaning extremely easy by following the above tips. But you must remember that you must not use a brush so stiff that it pulls fibers from the pile and also you must not scrub hard at the pile. You must never use an iron or a hair dryer to dry a carpet stain. This will seal the stain permanently. Always use the mildest cleaning products available in the market on your carpet.
