When it is time to finally organize your garage, there are a number of things that you can do.  You can choose to install garage cabinets for your garage organizing efforts, but you will have to begin with a good cleaning.  It can be difficult to throw away many of the items that you have stored in your garage, but it is the only way that you can reclaim that space.

If you plan to use your garage for an extra room for your home, you will have to clean out the items that have been stored for many years.  There are most likely items in your garage that you have forgotten you even own.  Now is a great time to go through everything in the garage and free up that extra space.  Even if you decide to use the space for garage storage all over again, you can do it in a much more organized fashion. 

It can be a little overwhelming to go through years of storage in your garage in a reasonable amount of time.  Start at one corner of the room and begin to sort the items that you find.  You can create a pile for items that you want to keep and items that you will be throwing out.  Also, create a pile of items that you can donate to the local Salvation Army or church group.  The pile of items that you are keeping should be much smaller than the ones that you are getting rid of for your garage to be well organized.

Go through the garage until you have removed all of the items in the garage and it is completely empty.  To add the garage organizing items such as shelves and garage cabinets, you should start with an empty garage.  Thoroughly clean the garage once you have removed everything.  Wash the floors and clean the dust and grime that has collected in your garage over the years. 

Hang some shelves up on the walls and hooks for storing tools and your yard equipment.  You can take advantage of the ceilings and walls in your garage so that you have much more space available on the floor.  This will allow you to do much more with the garage than you were prior to your garage organizing efforts.

You can even use the room for something else if you can organize your garage properly.  Design a room that you can use for a workshop or home office if you have enough available space left over.  The garage is a tremendous advantage to your home and offers you the space that you need for whatever you choose to do with the room.  It can only be accomplished if you get started on your garage organizing and clean the room out.  Imagine how much you could use that extra space in your garage for your own private room.  There is no limit on what you can do, but you will have to get rid of all that old junk in your garage.
