Using a forced hot air heating system

Central forced air heating system options are becoming a popular way by which a home can be heated, and in North America they are especially sought after. This is because the forced air heating system concept is designed to deliver heated air from one central heat pump or furnace to every single room in the home. It can also double up easily in order to deliver air conditioned air to the entire home as well.

Components of a forced air heating system

First, you have an air handler. This can be either a stand alone type of blower cabinet that has a heat pump, or it can be a forced air furnace that also includes a blower. Next, you have a means of heating the air, such as a gas fueled burner or an element for electric resistance heating. Third, you have ductwork for the purpose of delivering the room air to the heating element. Fourth, there is ductwork that is designed to send the heated air back to the rooms. Finally, there is a thermostat that allows for the system to be switched on and off again.

Forced air heating system cost can be low because there are not a ton of additional parts, but there are some parts as well as pieces that refine how the forced air system is designed to work. These items include filters that are responsible for cleaning the air, registers that are designed to direct the air flow and to control the flow of the air into rooms. In the case of forced air heating, the combustion for heat is utilized and then there is also a flue that is responsible for taking the combustion gasses and venting them outdoors.

More equipment used in forced air heating systems

The thermostat is responsible for telling the forced hot air heating system that the room temperature is below a set level of comfort. Once the thermostat has made this signal, then the air handler will kick on, and the room air will be drawn out of a cold air return through various ductwork and into the heat exchanger for the furnace. The heat exchanger is a metal chamber that the air flows around.

The burners or other electric heating elements will turn on, or the heat pump will engage in the forced air heating system and the air will be heated while it is moving through the air handler. Then the blower will force the newly warmed air through an extensive network of ductwork and back into the necessary rooms. The cycle will continue time and time again until the set level of comfort has been reached, at which time the thermostat for the forced air hitting system will turn the entire system off until it is needed again.
