Kitchen sink design
Written by No Doubt Marketing
A kitchen sink design may not be the first thing a person
notices when entering a kitchen, but it quickly becomes one of the most
important parts of the room. The sink will probably get used more than anything
else, so its design doesn't just add to the look of the room, but will greatly
affect how much you enjoy using the kitchen. And because a quality sink can
last for a few decades without needing to be replaced, you want to make a
choice you'll enjoy for a long time.
Your kitchen sink design should depend on how you typically
use a sink. If you wash dishes by hand, you'll probably want a two-basin sink.
Some models even come with three basins to offer you even more convenience. Or
you could opt for one large basin, which might be enough for you especially if
you usually use a dishwasher and only rinse dishes in the sink. If you want to
be able to wash or rinse large items, a three basin sink with one large basin
and two smaller ones is a practical option. Paired with a tall faucet, you'll
have room for even those large stock pots and roasters.
The sink material is an equally important choice in kitchen
sink design. Stainless steel is the classic sink material for many reasons.
It's beautiful and durable, and extremely hygienic. It doesn't chip, rust or
take very much maintenance, so it's easy to keep looking as good as new. And
because it's a solid surface, there are no pits or crannies where bacteria can
hide. A quick wipe with disinfectant and you have a superbly clean surface,
with no scrubbing.
While stainless is a wise and classic choice, there are
drawbacks. While it's not easy to scratch a stainless sink, it can be done. And
depending on the type of sink you've chosen, it might be hard to hide the
scratch. If you choose a stainless steel sink that has a random brushed grain
pattern, the scratch may barely be noticeable. But if it's a one-way pattern,
you may have to try to rub the scratch out, with limited success. And while
it's not easy to stain these sinks, it can be done especially with acidic food
like tomatoes or vinegar. You can also dent these sinks, so they're not
indestructible.
Other metals like copper make a beautiful kitchen sink
design, and are durable and low maintenance. Metal sinks look very striking in
a very modern kitchen. While a porcelain sink, which is porcelain over cast
iron, is a classic choice, too. You'll need to use sink mats to protect the
surface because it's breakable, but these sinks are available in different
installations and a variety of colors to coordinate with any kitchen.
You can also choose a kitchen sink design to make your life
easier by going with an undermount sink, or a tile-in sink if you have tiled
countertops. These types of kitchen sink design leave no rim to collect
bacteria and make clean up extra fast and easy.
