New kitchen design
Written by No Doubt Marketing
A new kitchen design is an exciting way to add value to a
home and make using the kitchen easier and more enjoyable to use. A brand new
kitchen can take much of the work out of cooking and cleaning up by allowing
you to get to everything you need easily. Kitchens with too little storage make
kitchen chores more difficult, while kitchens with storage in the wrong places
just add steps and time to the work. You want a kitchen that has plenty of
storage and counter space as well as room for good work flow, but you want it
to look great within the house, too.
When you're looking for new kitchen ideas, don't forget to
consider the rest of the house and its architectural style, too. A completely
modern kitchen with stainless steel appliances and sinks and lots of sharp
edges and lines will look out of place in a country-design home or a Gothic
Revival. And a contemporary home with lots of metal, glass and geometric design
will seem a strange place for that country kitchen with a big one-basin
porcelain sink and antiqued cabinets.
No matter what kind of kitchen you want, if it looks
"accidental" in the context of the house it can seem out of place and
not add the value you want to your home. So it's important for your new kitchen
design to be somewhat in keeping with the rest of the house.
Also, consider how you use the kitchen and how many people
are typically in the space at once. Do you need a kitchen table for eating, or
do you use the dining room? Without a table you might have room for that island
with the butcher block counter. Or you could have a breakfast nook in the
corner and an open floor space to show off your choice of tile.
You can find lots of new kitchen ideas by looking through
home and garden magazines and the hundreds of websites online that offer design
tips. Or you can go on home tours to see how others have decorated their
kitchens. Look at the kitchens in homes of your family and friends—both the kitchens
that work well for them and the ones that don't seem to—so you can take cues
from them about what you might want in your kitchen.
Choose cabinets that give you plenty of space for the things
you need to store, and make sure you have at least a little extra space that
you can't necessarily fill to give yourself some wiggle room. You don't want to
be able to fill every storage cranny in your brand new kitchen the moment it's
finished. Also, carefully consider your countertop choice. Choose countertops
that contrast with the walls and cabinets just enough to stand out without
looking garish, unless you're using a black/white theme where contrast is key.
And don't forget the maintenance in your new kitchen design, so you can choose
materials that are easy to clean and take care of.
