Interior painting contractors
Written by No Doubt Marketing
It may seem a little intimidating to pick a painting contractor to paint the interior of your home but if you carefully screen them, things should go wonderfully. You may want to first ask for recommendations from friends but even then you will want to do a little background check and you should feel fairly confident they will be around long after the job is done. If the contractor is a member of PDCA (Painting and Decorating Contractors of America) it is reassuring, but you should not rely on that alone. The Better Business Bureau is another place you can check. You will eventually want to narrow your choices down to three or four. They should have impressive photos or portfolios of work they have done before. They should willingly offer you references. When you call them in for an interview be sure to note how easy it is to contact them. Do you reach them on their cell phone? Do you get an answering machine? If you get a machine, note how long it takes for them to get back to you. All of these things are important because they give you an indication of how important he or she considers their work.
Once the contractors understand the work you want done, then they should give you an estimate on the job. Make sure all of the estimates include the same amount of work. For instance, does the price include clean up afterward? Are they willing to move the furniture out of the way and then back when they are finished? You will not always get the same answers. Each independent interior painting contractor has their own set of rules. It is their business. The question is, is their business the one you want? Ask all of the questions you want until you are confident you have found a contractor you can work with. If you cannot find an independent contractor then you may want to consider a national painting contractor. Chances are the national contractors have a lot more experience and are probably going to be around a while. If you go in this direction, though, you probably will end up spending more money. When getting your house painted you cannot leave the job to chance and you certainly don’t want to give the job to someone who will do a lousy job and then disappear. A reputable interior painting contractor will not mind the questions and is probably used to hearing them. Keep in mind that being a “nice guy” doesn’t make them a good painter and being a “jerk” doesn’t make them a bad painter. Chances are you won’t have to interact with them too much, anyway. Keep looking until you are confident you have found the right person for the job. The goal is to make your home look better by improving the look of your interior walls. Find someone that can do it, do it right and do it at a price you can afford.
