Interior wall paint
Written by No Doubt Marketing
Besides your floor covering, your walls are the most impressive aspect of any room in your home. They cover the biggest area and it is one of the first things to draw attention. How your walls look will determine, basically, the whole look of your home.
You will want to find an interior wall paint that will suit your personality, as well as the furnishings in your room. It is often best to go with a subtle background color of your sofa or floor covering, which brings out the design of everything in the room. The final decision, of course, is up to you and you can be as subtle or bold as you would like.
While your interior wall paint may define your home, the nice thing is that it is not very expensive to change the colors or textures of any room in your home. The average cost for painting a room yourself is about $100.
When it comes to types of paint you have several choices for interior walls: Gloss, Semi-Gloss, Flat, and Satin. Flat paints are the most difficult to keep clean and semi gloss is normally used in kitchens and bathrooms because it is so durable. Each has its own finish, such as matte and/or glossy, so it is very much a matter of personal taste which one you choose. You will want to buy a higher quality paint to get the best effect for the longest amount of time, however. One gallon of paint normally covers about 400 square feet. If your walls are 15 feet each (60 ft) and they are 8 feet high (60x8), then that comes to 480 square feet. You should get at least 2 gallons and if you are painting over a different color, you will want to do 2 coats on each wall.
You are the person who will have to live with the final result of the painting, so you should choose what you will like, rather than go with what someone else tells you. Your home should reflect who you are and also be a place that you enjoy coming home to. This can only happen if you make choices based on what you really think of a color or texture. If you are hiring someone to paint, do not let them tell you which colors to use. They may advise and you can agree or disagree with them, but it is your decision what color to go with. Get some color swatches from the paint store and study them in your home. Hold or tape them up to the wall and give yourself a day or two to decide. Remember not to stare at them but also take occasional glances to see how the effect hits you.
The wonderful thing about interior wall paint is that you can use a different color and style in every room in your house - and if you decide you just really can’t stand the end result, it does not cost that much to repaint. If you are hiring a painter, of course, the cost will be more.
