Concrete Cleaning
Written by No Doubt Marketing
Concrete cleaning and driveway cleaning are a great way to revitalize the look of the exterior of your home without spending a lot of money in the process. If you are interested in cleaning concrete floor, cleaning your driveway or cleaning any other type of concrete surface, the following tips will serve you well. One of the most commonly neglected parts of the home when it comes to cleaning is also one of the most commonly used, the driveway. Cleaning concrete or cement is not difficult at all with the right tools and know-how.
If you have grease stains or oil stains, one thing that you can do is rent a hot water pressure washer. The hot water, unlike with a cold water pressure washer, will melt away the oil, grease and other grime, restoring the look of your cement or concrete driveway. Oil is generally fussy when it comes to removing it. You may want to use cat litter or some saw dust to soak some of the oil up first before you run the pressure washer over the spot. Another option is to use dry concrete powder sprinkled directly over the stain, which after sitting for approximately 48 hours should have absorbed a lot of the oil deeply embedded in the concrete or cement.
Even if you do not have any stubborn oil or grease stains, pressure washing or power washing is still one of the preferred methods of getting a good driveway cleaning. There are cleaning products that are specific to concrete in general as well as specific to sidewalks or specific to driveways depending on what your needs are. If you use these specialized products, they will do a much better job than if you were to only use the pressure washer with water.
Once the driveway has been cleaned and given a nice appearance that is uniform in nature, the next thing that you can do is apply a sealer or a sealant product. Concrete is porous meaning that there are little holes throughout it, and oils and dirt can easily seep into these holes, making your driveway appear to be dirty again. The best way to keep all this dirt and grime out is to seal your driveway so that the dirt and other crud simply cannot get in. Sealants are applied much in the same way that paint is, but they will not wash out with the normal rain or other weather. Sealant can really go a long way, lasting several years. For the best results, it may be ideal to apply a sealer product every year or two to keep it in tip top shape.
You may also want to give your driveway a facelift if you are bored with it in general. This can be done by buying a decorative finish from your local hardware store. Many act as sealants, coating your driveway with a color or texture and keeping it clean and safe.
