When you're negotiating, let the roofing contractor make suggestions as far as problem solutions and the best materials.

You'll also want the contract to clearly state everything, from the types of materials they'll use to their warranties, to the dates they intend to start and finish the job, to the exact amount you're expected to pay for the job. If they've told you anything verbally, make sure it's exactly as they stated in the written contract.
