Description
The Avaya 900 MHz system is based on a micro-cellular design that consists of a Master Control Unit (MCU), base stations, and wireless telephones. With its advanced micro-cellular architecture, the system locates small radio transceivers or base stations throughout a customer's facility to accommodate on-premise roaming. As a wireless telephone user moves within the coverage area, the call is seamlessly passed between base stations. The system supports up to 3,200 users and millions of square feet of coverage, giving customers a scalable enterprise-wide wireless voice solution.
Master Control Unit
The Master Control Unit (MCU) is the processing center for calls to and from the Avaya 900 MHz Wireless Telephone system. Residing adjacent to the Avaya Communications Server, the MCU operates as a standalone, external system, while maintaining full telephony functionality for wireless telephone users. The MCU connects the Avaya Communications Server to the wireless system components by interfacing with the server's analog ports or connecting directly via a digital interface. Telephony ports for each wireless telephone are commissioned from the communications server.
Base Stations
Base stations provide the communication channel between the MCU and the wireless telephones. The base station and wireless telephones use digital spread-spectrum radio transmission in the 902-928 MHz frequency band.
Wireless Telephones
The Avaya 3410 Wireless Telephone enables customers to connect to and use the Avaya 900 MHz Wireless Telephone system.
