Automated Terminals
A machine, much like a cash machine, that allows renters to directly enter rental information
and receive a receipt. Automated terminals can help reduce the time required to return a car,
particularly for frequent renters.
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
Optional insurance policy that waives the driver's responsibility for any damage to the car.
Rates for CDW can be as much as $15 per day. Also called "loss damage waiver" (LDW). Most companies
will be able to find commercial auto insurance for much less than the cost of a CDW.
Express Pickup Service
A service that allows travelers to go directly to their car, without first checking in at a counter.
The service generally costs about $50 a year.
Express Return Service
A way to drop off a rental car without checking out at the counter. Agencies with express return
services typically have agents with handheld transmitters in the parking lot, or provide drop
off boxes for the car keys.
Drop Off Boxes
A simple way for renters to return the keys and rental forms. The information is later entered
into the computer and a receipt is mailed to the renter the following day.
Liability Coverage
Insurance that protects the driver or company against lawsuits from an injured party.
Personal Accident Insurance
Insurance that protects against medical bills. Generally much more expensive than standard accident
insurance.
Personal Effects Insurance
Insurance that protects against damage to personal property. Generally much more expensive than
other types of property insurance.
Personal Profile
A database that contains personal renter information such as credit card number and car preference
for quick processing when making reservations.
Valet Service
A service for renters in a great hurry to return a car and get to the airport. With this service,
an employee will drive with the renter from the rental lot, drop the renter off at the appropriate
terminal and return the car to the lot. Costs tend to be about $5-$15 per drop off.
