Commission Model
A revenue model for travel agencies in which money is made by receiving a set commission for
each ticket. The commission model makes travel agencies "free" for travelers, but can decrease
the agency's incentive to find the lowest fare.
Overrides
Travel agent incentive programs used by travel vendors to encourage the use of one supplier over
other vendors. These additional commissions are typically paid out as an agency achieves greater
business volume with the vendor.
Rebating
A process by which travel agencies share a percentage of their commission with clients. Rebates
generally range from 2%-5% of the ticket price, and are typically supplemented by a flat fee
for services.
