Armoire
A large cabinet or wardrobe that stands alone.
Casters
Wheels that attach to the bottom of desks, chairs, etc.
Chairmat
A mat, usually plastic, that sits under your chair. This makes it easy to roll around despite any rug lurking underneath the mat.
Conference table
A long table designed for large meetings. Usually high quality.
Credenza
A buffet, sideboard, or bookcase, especially one without legs.
Desk lamp
A lamp designed to sit on a desk.
Drafting table
A table whose top adjusts to tilt in different directions.
Ergonomic
Adjective describing furniture that increases productivity by reducing operator fatigue and discomfort.
Floor lamp
A lamp designed to stand on the floor.
Footrest
Intended to increase comfort while seated, the footrest is an elevated surface that is usually placed under a desk. Sometimes has adjustable height and tilt.
Halogen lamp
Uses a halogen light bulb.
Hutch
A cupboard or bookcase that is placed on top of a desk or credenza.
Magazine rack
Also called a literature rack, this vertical rack has space for magazines at select intervals so that the titles are all visible at once. Commonly seen in the doctor's office.
Mail cart
A rolling cart that usually has an upper level with hanging files for sorting mail and a lower level for larger packages.
Pneumatic
Adapted or containing compressed air. Usually refers to the height adjustment mechanism in a stool or adjustable chair.
Return
Attaches to a desk at a 90 degree angle to form a half-square of workspace.
Torchiere lamp
A usually tall lamp with a bowl-shaped part that deflects light upwards.
Veneer
The surface layer, usually of fine wood, attached to an inferior wood as a decorative or protective layer.
Workstation/workcenter
A desk designed with multiple levels to hold the components of a computer (including monitor, keyboard and CPU). Also called a computer cart when it has wheels.
