Accessory Charge
A charge that reflects the cost of services rendered beyond the transport of goods. Common charges
include fees for storage, contacting the recipient before delivery, or providing inside delivery
to companies without loading docks.
Claim/Damage Ratio
The percentage of revenue paid out in claims for shipping problems caused by loss, damage, or
theft. The industry average is 1.25-1.40%.
Collect On Delivery (C.O.D.)
A service whereby the carrier will obtain payment for goods from the recipient at the time of
delivery.
Consignee
The recipient of a package.
Interlining
A shipment that is transferred from one LTL carrier to another to complete a shipment. Interlining
is often used to ship packages outside of the local region.
On-Time Delivery
Indicates how often a firm meets its self-declared delivery schedule, excluding weather-related
delays. Good companies will typically quote rates in the mid to high nineties.
