EDI
Electronic data interchange. A type of system that allows contract stationer to automatically
receive inventory reports and payments from their customers. EDI can be used for automatic
restocking and invoicing.
Loss Leaders
Items priced at or below cost to attract buyers. Office supply stores often advertise name brand
items to entice buyers into the store, and then place similar generic items nearby at a slightly
lower price. The hope is that most buyers will substitute to similar generic product, which
has higher profit margins for the store.
Mail Order Vendors
Office supplies dealers that sell through mail catalogs. Mail order vendors tend to offer a broad
range of products, but may charge higher prices for unusual items.
