Registered Agent

According to state laws, corporations and LLCs must have a "registered agent" in the state of formation. The registered agent can be a company or an individual, and must have a physical address in the state of incorporation (no P.O. Boxes). The registered agent is named in the articles of incorporation, and is responsible for receiving important legal and tax documents, such as franchise tax forms, annual report statements and service of process documents.
