Unified communications moving beyond VoIP, messaging

February 2, 2012

VoIP phone systems are common solutions to be integrated into unified communications platforms. However, as UC becomes more widely utilized and businesses become more social and collaborative, the tools are going to incorporate more than just voice and messaging solutions, according to a NoJitter report by industry expert Blair Pleasant.

Today, social and collaboration tools are becoming as important as services that connect employees and customers. To get the most out of these solutions, however, they need to be incorporated into one suite. This trend of combining VoIP phone systems with messaging, blogging, presence and conferencing products is happening, though it is occurring at a slow pace, Pleasant noted.

Nevertheless, within the next two or three years, these social-collaboration-unified communications platforms will be some of the most highly utilized tools among businesses looking to improve mobility and efficiency for a low cost, she asserted.

These technologies are also becoming more widely deployed because of innovations with cloud computing, broadband capabilities and wireless networking, NPD In-Stat reported. These trends will help the process of integration become quicker, allowing businesses to utilize these solutions sooner.
