Empower yourself with the language of insiders. We decipher the arcane terms, epigrammatic abbreviations, and weird words used in the industry.

Automatic Number Identification (ANI)
A feature that provides the phone number of the incoming caller. ANI is required with most 900 lines to identify where the call should be billed.

Dialed Number Identification Service (DNIS)
A feature that identifies the 900 number that was dialed. This allows one call center to handle a variety of calls, connecting to different support groups depending on the number dialed.

IP
Another name for an information provider, or the company that sets up a 900 number.

Tailored call coverage
The ability to selectively block calls by state or area code.

Uncollectables
Callers who have not paid their 900 bill. Some bureaus can help reduce the amount of uncollectables with caller tracking equipment that denies delinquent accounts access to the service.
