Real-world generator prices from BuyerZone buyers

We regularly survey BuyerZone users to ask how their purchases went. We've used their responses to provide a sampling of actual prices paid for electric generators.

Most of these quotes are for standby generators, the type that are installed at your business or home to provide electricity in case of a power outage. Portable generators, designed to be transported to remote job sites or campgrounds, are generally much less expensive but provide less power.

When buying a standby generator, remember that your budget has to include installation and a transfer switch, which can add several thousand dollars to your costs. Get the vendors you work with to provide complete quotes on the entire system so you can make accurate comparisons.
