What's the difference between a construction trailer and storage container?
When a construction project begins, there has to be an on-site location for key personnel to oversee what is transpiring. While precious time and money could be spent to develop just the right housing, the emphasis needs to be more on the permanent structure, rather than the temporary one. That's why construction trailers are the favorite choice for a job site. They're a quick fix for exactly what is needed.
Why is using construction trailers better than using containers?
- Mobility. Trailers can be easily moved, if need be, to another location on-site. Since they are on wheels, it only requires the right truck to attach and relocate it wherever it is needed. Containers have to be picked up by the company that dropped them off. Sliding it on and off of a trailer will upset any contents that are inside.
- Function. While a trailer is small enough to fit anywhere, they are still able to offer sufficient office space. They have windows, doors and are meant to appear as if you were in an office setting. They are designed for comfort and functionality.
Containers, on the other hand, are designed for storage- period. Trying to adapt them to an office would require stringing lights and electricity, at the very least. Even so, you wouldn't be able to keep an eye on what was transpiring around you without going outside. They are also not climate-controlled. Try working out of one in the middle of the summer.
However, a container is quite useful when it is utilized as it was intended- for storage. Combining a trailer with a container gives you the best of both worlds. Each has their own distinct purpose and fulfills that particular need very effectively. When personnel operate out of a trailer and materials are stored in a container, it gives you exactly what you need in both areas.
- Cleanliness. On a construction job site, the last area to be landscaped is where the construction office is located. That means lots of dirt, and mud when it rains. Construction trailers give you an advantage by being raised up off of the grade, allowing you to enter and exit easily. Containers, on the other hand, sit directly on the ground where runoff and mud can make it necessary to dig out the opening in order to open and close it.
- Price. In order to see the savings, you have to look at the big picture. When looking at construction trailer costs, everything is inclusive. No labor is required to set it up or modify it for your needs. You tow it to the site, connect power and you're ready for business.
A container requires adaptation. Considerable time, money and labor could be spent trying to modify it for something other than it's intended use. These resources would be better spent on the construction project itself.
All in all, the best obvious choice for a construction site is to use a trailer. They give you exactly what you need as soon as they arrive. Trailers are meant to fill a specific need, just like containers.
